RaggedEdge @Linuxchic: Siemens APT, it’s a DOS program, it sucks, it runs in 640K low memory with a special graphics driver loaded high.

RaggedEdge @Linuxchic: Can only use the serial port to download programs to a special controller, takes 45 to 50 minutes for big programs.

RaggedEdge @Linuxchic: During about half of the downloads, it locks up, thus requiring to start over. Fun when a whole brewery is waiting on you.

btn @linuxchic – Anything that requires me to fire up Windows in VMware – even worse if it requires me to actually boot the machine into Windows

linuxchic My most hated? Windows is my default answer. Most hated software varies depending on the day. :P

Ain’t this the truth ;)

After a conversation with lizze on Twitter about spam and then reading the related blog post, we came up with SDIAF (spammers, die in a fire). This inspired me to play with Gimp, learn to make flames, and create an SDIAF button. Yeah, it is kinda silly, but we all need an outlet. =)

Use it if you like, but please, don’t hotlink to the image, save it on your own disk space.

I don’t know if I just had my eyes open to moblog possibilities this weekend or if iThings are really taking over the world, but it seems that there are way too many iThings out there now-a-days.

I found the iFan at Wal-Mart. When searching the web I found info about it as a user submitted stupid gadget at Gizmodo. Awesome.

Shopping at Best Buy over the weekend, I found more iThings.

First, the iWash 

  Next, the iDry.

Apparently these are intelligent laundry machines by Frigidaire.

The last item I saw really wasn’t so shocking. It’s a take off the iDog and manufactured by the same company; the iCY. It’s cute and I want it because it would be good for my penguin collection even if I refuse to give up my Creative mp3 player and follow the trendy iPod people.

My spouse and geek friends are still chucking over this one…and I think you probably have to be a geek to appreciate it.

I had just taken my first Unix system administration job and I wasn’t real familiar with Solaris having not had much experience with it in the past (I had been a network tech and linux/windows admin previously). I was at my in-laws house and they decided to play Trivial Pursuit. I am NOT a trivia game fan. I am not good at holding all these little factoids in my brain to pull them out on demand for a game like this, so I was pretty miserable. It got down to the final question for my husband and I to win the game – we only needed this one pie piece and I could finally quit playing. The question was for technology. I was ecstatic! Question: “Who put the dot in dot com? – Which company uses that slogan?” I was dumbfounded. I could not for the life of me pull that little bit of info out of my brain. It was right there….but I had nothing. The answer, everyone together now: Sun Microsystems. My husband looked at me and said, what systems do you support at your new job? I told him “Sun” He laughed, I slapped myself in the head and the rest is history. Years later, everyone keeps bringing it up.
