Today’s, “it’s about damn time” news post comes to you from GigaOM. On a side note, I have been sharing out a FON hotspot for about a year:

It has been more than twenty days since we reported that FON, the share-your-Wi-Fi service company was in talks with Time Warner Cable. Today, a news report from Associated Press confirms the deal and adds, that Time Warner Cable “will let its home broadband customers turn their connections into public wireless hotspots, a practice shunned by most U.S. Internet service providers.” Time Warner spokesperson confirmed the deal, though the two companies didn’t give any specifics.

FON is taking a shot at T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi service, with Joanna Rees, chief executive of FON USA adding, “They’re extorting people.” Lets just say, that is a bit of an overstatement - $30-to-40-a-month for a service that is reliable (if not fast) hardly counts as extortion.

Nine Inch Nails Tells RIAA To F*ck Off?

Tech Amok took the time to translate the binary on the back and it brought them to Exterminal, which is a “neat little commentary that I think is at least partially directed at RIAA.” The site also seems to host a bonus track. This really is some pretty neat stuff and Trent Reznor is a fave of mine.

The Ubuntu community is insane

A bug filed at launchpad.net stating that The Ubuntu community is insane..

The bug title pretty much sums it up. We need medication and probably group counseling.

Remember, admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery…

Many of you have been asking about the Digg API and I’m happy to announce that it is now publicly available at services.digg.com along with a Flash application toolkit. This will be a great tool for Digg users and partners to openly access all Digg data dating back to 2004.

Things I Love III - My Commute

Part three in a series about things I love.

I love my commute. There is an occassion a few times a month when I wish I could get home faster but overall I like my drive to and from work. It takes me an average of 30 minutes to get in every morning and about 45 minutes to get home every night if there are no accidents to slow me down. I use the time to listen to podcasts and to make mental lists. I use the time to make plans about my websites and blogs. It is my “ramp up to work” time and “wind down” from work time.

I gripe a lot at discourteous annoying drivers, crazy out of control drivers and slow people who make my commute last longer than it should. I dump all my stress and aggressions out through those expletive filled outbursts within the safety of my car and arrive to my destination ready for what lies ahead.

For the last three years I had lived in a rural area and had a five minute commute to pretty much anywhere in town. I hated it. I love the city with it’s congested roads and interstates and how it forces me to spend time alone in my car. I love my daily commute. I hope I never have to carpool, I would hate to lose my “me time”.

Sorry it has been a few weeks since I started this series. I have been synchronizing my posts between Vox and Linuxchic.net and I think I need to separate them again. Linuxchic.net will go back to being mostly techie, with the exception of a few posts series such as this one and Vox will be for mostly other types of posts. I am also going to stop the Twitter updates from my blog because frankly, I don’t think it follows Twitter etiquette  to tell the whole world every time I link to a story I like.  If you want to follow me on Twitter and read where I am, what I am eating, and other random things I might be doing, visit my Twitter page and add me. I also feed my Twitter updates to Jaiku.

As originally posted on my Vox blog:

While I was sitting in a lunch meeting today, I got the inspiration to gripe. So here I am, thumb typing away during a meeting pretending to take notes but instead writing a blog post. What passion could I possibly experience during a meeting you ask? Eating habits.

I could not redirect my attention from a vendor sitting directly in my line of sight at the conference table. Watching her take each bite was like staring at an accident…I was grossed out but couldn’t stop watching. Each bite she took of her chicken salad she puckered her lips into an *O* then stuck her tongue out to meet the fork still 1/2 inch or more from her mouth. I felt like I was watching a bug feeding habits documentary on the Discovery Channel complete with some guy narrating in my head.

The luncheon left me wondering where she learned to eat like this? Did her parent’s do this? Does she have dental issues causing her to attempt to suck up her food with her tongue? Perhaps it is an attempt to save her lipstick? Maybe I will start Googling when I get back to my desk… or maybe I need to start paying attention to meeting contents rather than bug people.
