A Taiwanese company is selling a tiny Linux-powered mini PC that has a consumer electronics look-and-feel for $99, quantity one. Seems like a neat platform for a wide range of specialized applications and projects. Perhaps now I can throw away all those old PCs I save for netappliances and just start replacing them with this. Much better form factor. =)

Face Recognition Demo

Sunday
Sep 24,2006

A friend alerted me to a fun time waster tonight, a Face Recognition Demo at MyHeritage.com. The downside is you have to register but after playing with it I found it worth it (you can put in a bogus email if you never want to go back because it does not require email verification). Basically it works like this: Upload a decent photo of yourself, preferably a good straight on head shot with you gaze towards the camera, then it spits out all the celebrities it says look like you. It also gives you links to add this to your MySpace page and such or email links. (more…)

09/22/06 12:27AM UPDATE!!
I found a theme that has three columns and totally doesn’t suck. It not only doesn’t suck, it totally kicks ass! How do you like? Get it for your own WP site here

Lets start this post off with a disclaimer. I cannot design my way out of a cardboard box. There. Now, back to my original question: Why do Wordpress theme names sound so awesomely cool, but look like total crap? Admittedly, not all of them do, but a lot of them do. I was trying to find some uber leet theme for my site and I click on all these misleading names (I refuse to name any thanks) only to find the theme is ugly. Fugly even. Or worse, boring. (more…)

Last.fm

The graphic and the charts have been on this site awhile so I might was well post something about them. This post is dual purpose, it serves to explain all this Last.fm crap on my site as well as to add another post to the Social Networking category. So, what is Last.fm you are asking? Well, it is a social network that revolves around music. (more…)

Death by Caffeine…

Saturday
Sep 23,2006

According to the Energy Fiend this is what it would take of my favorite caffeinated items to meet my end (calculated by using the amount of caffeine in these items and my weight):

  • 81.22 Foosh Energy Mints + Me = Death
  • After 58.01 cans of Monster, I’d be pushing up daisies.
  • I could drink 70.02 cups of Starbucks Grande Cappuccino before croaking.
  • I could drink 102.81 cans of SoBe Adrenaline Rush before croaking.
  • It would take 62.48 cans of Starbucks Double Shot to put me down.
  • It would take 1,624.35 Black Black Gum sticks to put me down.
  • Gulp down 56.01 cups of Drip Coffee and I’m history.
  • Gulp down 112.80 cans of Jolt Cola and I’m history.
  • Gulp down 541.45 cups of Green Tea and I’m history.
  • It would take 105.48 shots of Espresso to put me down.
  • 147.67 cans of Mountain Dew + Me = Death.
  • Gulp down 108.29 cans of Mountain Dew Amp and I’m history.

The top three would be my favorite ways to die! =)

Broken Heart

There are just some people who will never open up to you. There are some people that no matter how bad they want to be close to someone they will never truly succeed because they are too wrapped up in their own misery to give themselves to someone else. They don’t know how to give therefore they cannot receive. Friendship is a fierce thing. It requires a lot to be a friend to someone and to find a friend. How can you accept someone else giving of themselves, if you don’t understand it because you are not capable of it?

Our friends help us find a place in this world. Our friends are there for us when everything goes wrong and we hold our heads in our hands and cry. Our friends remind us that there is a purpose in this life, that we do indeed make contributions, and that we are special and loved. Without love, we are but an empty shell full of despair and anger. Our friends calm the chaos and in the same, we return the favor.

Everyone needs a friend, but not everyone knows what to do with one once one finds them. There are people that don’t know how to be loved. It may seem cruel and crushing to run away from those that need us the most, but what good can we be if we sacrifice ourselves for someone who hurts us. We cannot let someone else send us into despair. My mother once told me that you can not bring someone up to your level, they can only bring you down to theirs. I believe that someone can be brought up to a higher level, but ONLY if they want it for it themselves and the hand of a friend can help guide the way. The desire to come up from the darkness must be within them and the effort given must be theirs.

We all have our own demons that we deal with. Hopefully, we will be lucky enough to have a friend to be there for us and likewise, us for them. We can’t save everyone though, and those that wish to wallow in their sadness are the ones that break my heart my most. I try, I love, and I am here. That is all I can do.
